Winner Worldwide Picturebook Illustration Competition!

Good news! I am one of the three Dutch winners of the Worldwide Picturebook Illustration Competition! I am happily surprised by it! You can read more about this competition here

I've send in three illustrations that goes along with a selfmade story calling: No time!

And they were chosen! In Octiober there will be a travelling exhibition including work of the in total 12 winners; 3 from Germany, 3 from the United Kingdom, 3 from South Africa and 3 from the Netherlands.

The exhibition starts in my hometown Rotterdam the 4th of October and travels then to the Bilderbuch Museum in Troisdorf  in Germany and The Hive in Worcester in the United Kingdom. And maybe even to Shanghai!

They also will print a catalogue, which will be shown on the Frankfurter Buchmesse and the Bologna Childrens's Bookfair.

I have a reason to have red cheeks right now, don't you think? ;-)

umbrella mix

It's voting time again! I can use your help and would be very happy with it! (again ;-))
Here's my entree for these weeks spoonflower contest. Theme: umbrella.
You can vote for it by clicking this link and scroll to find my umbrella mix.

I've tried to make a cheerfull design in contrast with those grey rainy days...
Ofcourse I also made an illustration to show the pattern on a dress:

Here you can see the umbrella mix on a cushion:

Because I liked the umbrella theme very much I made some more patterns on this theme.
'Cats and umbrellas' is one of them:

Here you can see the cats and their yellow umbrellas and boots on a cushion:

And another one: it's raining umbrellas. This was the last one I made.
Also a cheerful design:

The 'it's raining umbrellas' pattern on a cushion:

Because you can only add one design per week to the spoonflower competition, I had to choose. I didn't find that easy, but I chose for the umbrella mix (see the first image of this post). I'm curious: which one do you like the most?

Mad Tea Party Pattern

This week I join the Spoonflower competition again. Subject is tables and chairs.
I wouldn't think of such a theme, but it inspired me to make this 'mad tea party' pattern.
I like it to give them characters, as if they have their own party :-))

#WordEenWebVedette

Marketing specialists MamaMarketing gonna change their name after 4 years. They have asked people to tweet their favorite quotes and share them on twitter etc. with the hashtag WordEenWebVedette. My most favorite quote at the moment is:

illustratie: Nelleke Verhoeff - Red Cheeks Factory #WordEenWebVedette

I follow them for a while now. They have an inspiring blog (in Dutch) Full with all kind of tips. But I always felt a bit strange about the name, because I am no Mama (Mom). So it was as if it was not for me. But to be honest I can certainly use tips about marketing. It's not my strongest point. So now they gonna change their name into WebVedettes. I like the new name :-)

When I saw their request to share your favorite quote(s) I began to draw:

It is a competition, so you can win a prize: A two hours marketing session about your webshop. Well who knows, I followed the advice of my quotes. Hope it works ;-)

top 112

Some time ago I joined the self portrait contest of Museum Boymans in Rotterdam.
Last week I heard I'm in the selection of the top 112
From more than 1300 participants!

Today I received an e-mail:

"Unfortunately your portrait is not selected for the exhibition.
It doesn't mean your work isn't good or interesting, the fact
you were selected in the top 112 says enough..."

It would have been nice to see little Red Ridinghood
in our own town Museum, (I was close... :-))

There will be a compilation movie of all portraits besides the exhibition.

The opening is Sunday 24 Februari in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
I'm planning to go there!

Little Red Ridinghood

My submission for the self portrait competition
from Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
There are already almost 1000 participants...

Find my Little Red Ridinghood here

The portrait is a drawing / collage after an old youth photo of me.
It's one of the faces for my face a day project.

I heard about this competition from Celine schroeder
She joins too with one of her very strong Pippi paintings.
Thanks Celine!

T-shirt design competition

Recently I was asked to join the Wolf T-shirt design competition

Normally I'm not a big fan of competitions, but I found this a nice challenge:
Make a design in only two colors for a children's T-shirt.
It was interesting to integrate the color of the T-shirt in the design
And make it three colored this way :-)

Here's the link to the Muscle Man
You could vote for him, if you like him... ;-)

Here's the link to Little Red Cat
Of course she like votes too :-)
Thanks in advance!

You can still send in your your entries till the 1th of January
